Amanda Fucking Palmer is on the loose again. This time with an album celebrating Australia and New Zealand with many of the songs recorded live down under. The audiences seem to enjoy the shows a lot with lots of applause, yells and singing along.
Amanda picks up her beloved ukulele once again and also sits down by her keyboard/piano. There are songs about
Australia
and
New Zealand
and generally there is a lot of humor found in the lyrics.
Subjects touch down on different issues like
Vegemite (The Black Death)
which is a dark brown Australian food paste made from yeast extract. Amanda seems to have very traumatic experiences with this food product.
"
The choice is yours, My heart is in your hands
Please wash your hands, You just ate Vegemite for lunch
You selfish bastard!
"
She also sings about her pubic hair in the catchy
Map of Tasmania
. For some reason she is very interested in telling the world that she keeps it au natural for whatever reason.
The album has visits by many guest artists, including Mikelangelo & Lance Horne, The Jane Austen Argument, Brian Viglione (of the Dresden Dolls), The Young Punx. It has a total of 12 tracks and it ends with Amanda's take on the Nick Cave piano classic
The Ship Song
. It makes good sense to include a cover of a song by one of Australia's greatest musicians and songwriters on an album dedicated to everything down under.
The price for downloading the album is basically up to yourself (you decide the price) or you can buy a physical cd, if you so prefer. In fact, you can also buy a phone call from Amanda Palmer or a private gig at your house. The options seem endless.
It's not an album of quite the same quality as the amazing
Who Killed Amanda Palmer
[2008], but it carries on a lot of the style found on her
Amanda Palmer Performs The Popular Hits Of Radiohead On Her Magical Ukulele
[2010] album (her version of
Creep
is awesome.)
It is all about good fun, it is entertaining and it also has some great melodies in between, and that is well good enough.
