This is the 25th Burton/Depp collaboration or so. It should be so perfect but more often than not I've left the cinema kinda disappointed. This time around was no different. With a cast featuring Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter, Chloë Moretz, Christopher Lee, just to name a few, you would and should expect a bloody great movie. Unfortunately it fails on several levels. Mostly because it cannot decide whether it ... [read more]

I had read a review before I saw this movie, and I wrongly figured this movie would be some kind of semi-serious "alone in the woods" slasher thing - only with a brand new twist. What it really is however, is a The Truman Show [1998] type of setup. Only this time the neighbours have been replaced with blood thirsty zombies. It is a bit of a horror comedy and includes all the usual ... [read more]

I've been listening intensively to the new Marilyn Manson album for several days now. It has been a pretty hardcore nut to crack. It is very different from most of the former MM albums. It sounds a bit like a demo recording with unusually good sound quality though (for being the demo recording it isn't.) The songs are stripped bare and mostly built upon industrial noisy and hard-beating rhythms that makes you think ... [read more]

It's been an unbelievable 4 years period since the previous real Ani DiFranco album was released, but I guess she's been kept busy with her kid and stuff. Unfortunately also too busy to tour old Europe. Well, she is back with a new album here in 2012 and the good news is that it sounds exactly like Ani of old. More good news is that it has some pretty good tracks on it. As ... [read more]

This album will easily sit between my favourite slow-ass albums. Play something slow that's not like GWAR, Lemmy or Immortal, but still sounds a hell o-alot more intelligent than sleeping sheep. Shut up, I'm not saying Gemma Ray is a sleeping sheep, far from a sheep in any possible way. This is probably one of the best records of the year. I fucking love it!!! I was present at her support gig for Nick ... [read more]

Parts of this movie are infernos of explosions and destruction that makes you think "Transformers"-hell and Michael Bay more than once. Furthermore there are way too many main characters for one movie and also the plot is so paper-thin and re-used that it is almost embarrassing, even for Hollywood. Scarlett Johansson is awesome as Black Widow, she looks so HOT in her tight suit and Robert Downey Jr's Iron Man is as charming and ... [read more]

I was a bit sceptic at first after seeing the (almost) full programme for 2012. Seeing danish act Mew as a "Headliner" made me laugh out loud (they're known as Møw among people who are "not so much fans".) But I have taken a deep breath now, and it could have been a lot worse. In fact there's some very promising experiences hidden in there (and more great bands that I'll only run into ... [read more]

Killing Joke has released an awesome new album which is built around a "2012 end-of-days" theme. I never really fell in love with the previous album Absolute Dissent [2010], but this new album is much closer to perfection, and it has been in my earphones at work for 3 days now on repeat. It has some massively thundering industrial sounding tracks loaded with energy. The opener Pole Shift runs for 9 minutes and changes ... [read more]

I've bought their "Down By The River" using the PledgeMusic system - getting fans to fund a possible new release. I'm a big fan of this system and it generally works great. So far, I've received a download version (CD + DVD to follow.) The recording quality is rather disappointing however. It sounds like "straight to MP3" aka "direct from soundboard" recordings. No care has been taken to optimize the recordings as far as I can hear. It should be possible to do better than this if you have access to all mixer tracks and all the time in the world to process the result afterwards. Still it's a good snapshot of a very great tour where I caught them at Denmark's Roskilde Festival in 2011, a great gig indeed. Anyway, get this release if you love Killing Joke to death, but not if you are only searching for sublime live recordings.

This must be the best low budget action comedy I've seen for a very long time. You get to enjoy an awesome Nazi Moon Base and if you keep in mind that this is a rather low budget movie then the space ship designs and even the battle scenes are actually totally fantastic. The movie has some hilarious jokes hitting everything from the American President, who has a very strong similarity with a ... [read more]

I'm still flying mighty highty high from two excellent D-A-D gigs here in Copenhagen this weekend. Yeah, they did it again as in super+ furious. Twice! Nobody in their right mind goes to see D-A-D two days in just one weekend. Except me, myself and your favourite dictator, of course. Having been to the rather intimate gig @ London's Underworld earlier this year, I kinda knew what to expect. Subtract the intimacy of ... [read more]
